About Us
When we married and dreamed about our future lives, owning a business was at the top of the list. We knew we wanted to work together to build something that we would be proud of, that our children might be able to own some day. We both had so many skills and talents, finding a direction was hard. Would it be construction? Would it be retail? Would it be real estate? We just were not sure, so we continued to work our jobs and talk about the plans we had.
Then Covid hit and everything in our lives changed. The once stable jobs we had were no more and we were really struggling, we had to create a plan.
While everyone else was worried about toilet paper and gas, we were trying to figure out how to give handmade gifts for Christmas. I started watching videos online about simple easy gifts and somehow my algorithm chose soapmaking.
Some of our very first bars!
This was perfect! We wanted to learn skills that were sustainable, as we all felt the crunch of an uncertain future. We wanted to have better options of safer products with fewer chemicals (yes, Dr Squatch, we saw you too). But we also saw this as an opportunity to do something that we might actually be able to market and sell, when the time is was right. So I set to work.
At first, I spent many months researching what our products would contain. Would they be vegan? Artisan? Look like dessert? There were so many paths to take, choosing the right way for us would be tough.
We chose lard and tallow as our focus in 2020. We felt, at the time, this was a highly underutilized and misunderstood raw ingredient. Not enough people knew about the bio availability of its natural oils and what a difference this could make in skincare for people. After this decision I started my testing phase. Then in 2023, we launched our LLC, website and moved into stores.
We have not looked back. We continue to test, research and try new products. Some stick around, some phase out. Many are tried and true and our testimonials speak to the care and concern we put into everything we produce. From our carefully selected add ins to our locally sourced fats and butters, we put a little of ourselves into everything we do.
